Background of the study

Faith-based organizations (FBOs) play a significant role in delivering social services and fostering community development. In Kano State, these organizations are deeply embedded in the socio-cultural fabric, providing education, healthcare, and humanitarian assistance to vulnerable populations. FBOs often complement governmental efforts by reaching underserved communities and mobilizing volunteer networks to address social challenges (Abdullahi, 2023). They operate on principles of compassion, solidarity, and community service, which contribute to social cohesion and collective well-being. The influence of FBOs extends beyond service delivery; they also shape moral values and community norms, thereby reinforcing social stability and resilience. However, challenges such as limited resources, overlapping mandates, and potential biases in service delivery can affect their overall impact. This study evaluates the contribution of faith-based organizations to social welfare in Kano State, exploring their role in enhancing access to essential services and promoting social justice, while also identifying areas for improvement in their operational frameworks.

Statement of the problem

Despite the significant contributions of faith-based organizations to social welfare in Kano State, many challenges hinder their effectiveness. Limited funding, insufficient infrastructure, and coordination issues with governmental agencies often restrict their capacity to deliver comprehensive services. Furthermore, biases in service delivery may inadvertently marginalize certain groups, thereby undermining the principles of equity and inclusion. A critical evaluation of these organizations is needed to understand their impact on social welfare and to identify strategies for enhancing their effectiveness and sustainability.
